Abstract

Articles are formed from hardenable synthetic resins by applying to the inner walls of a heated mould a fast drying solution or suspension of pigments or of pigments and a hardenable synthetic resin, introducing the moulding material, and pressing and hardening the surface decoration and the body forming material at the same time. The mould is printed or sprayed with a solution or suspension of pigment in a solvent such as methanol or with a coloured solution of synthetic resin such as phenol-formaldehyde in methanol and a coloured or uncoloured backing material is introduced and caused to flow over the surface film and unite therewith. In a modification, a clearly transparent and quickly drying dissolved resin, on or into which coloured, reflecting or irising particles are brought, is used for the surface layer with an opaque coloured basic mixture to produce mother-of-pearl and similar effects.
