Abstract

1287513 Moulding polyamide articles; coated moulds BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 29 Jan 1970 [29 Jan 1969 28 Feb 1969] 4281/70 Heading B5A Polyamide articles are produced by the activated anionic polymerization of lactams in a mould made of a particulate moulding material treated with a binder wherein the surfaces of the mould which contact the polyamide are provided with a pore-free coating of a cured cross-linked composition. The coating is preferably one or more of acrylic resins, epoxy resins, silicone resins, etherified amino resins and may comprise up to 20 wt. per cent of alkyd resins based on ricinoleic acid, coconut acids or synthetic fatty acids. The mould is made by coating a former 2 resting on base-plate 1 with a layer 0À3-30 mm. thick of the cross-linkable resin 3 which is preferably in solution in an organic solvent. This layer is backed with a mixture of 85-99À7 wt. per cent of a blend of from 0 to 90 parts by volume of a non-heat resistant material having a large volume of cavities e.g. a foamed polymer and 100 to 10 parts by volume of inorganic solid or cavity containing materials e.g. sand. Between 15 and 0À3% of a curable binder is also incorporated in the inorganic material. The binder and resin layer are then cured and the mould is removed from the former. The mould may incorporate heating means, temperature measuring devices, metal powder grid or other fillers, or glass or other fibre reinforcement; many examples being given.
