Abstract
457,854. Boxes. BARLOW, R., 28, Kingsway, London, and COWAN, A. F., 48, Barnfield Avenue, Shirley, Surrey. June 4, 1936, No. 16091. [Classes 18 and 125 (iii)] A metal, cardboard, or moulded box for lozenges, cigarettes, or powder, has a sliding lid with side tongues or flanges 14 formed with pips or ribs 13 which slide in grooves 12 in the sides of the box so as to limit the movement of the lid in both directions. Alternatively, the ribs may be formed in the box sides and the grooves in the lid flanges. The opening and closing movements of the lid are also limited by a rib 5 and an end flange on the lid both of which can abut against the end of the box. A pip 11 which can ride over the end wall of the box prevents accidental opening of the lid. The lid may have a pushed-up panel defining a peripheral groove in which sealing material, e.g. a rubber ring, is held, and the lid is placed on the box in a vacuum. Access to the contents is obtained by displacing the sealing ring or removing a seal covering a pinhole, after which the lid is inverted and sprung on the box.
