[Class 79 (iii)] [See also Groups XXXII and XXXVII] The circuit of an audible or visual signalling device 1 on a tractor includes a spring -pressed electric switch 4 which is normally kept open by an element connected to a trailer vehicle, so that if the trailer becomes uncoupled, the circuit is closed and a warning conveyed to the driver. The switch is enclosed in a casing 6 secured to the rear end of the tractor and comprises a plate 16 preferably of non-oxidizable material attached to the casing and adapted to be pressed into contact with an insulated terminal 13 of the circuit 5 by a spring plate 18 on a lever 9 on a pivot 8 when the lever is free to move under the pressure of a spring 12, the lever being normally rendered inoperative by a link 19 engaging a notch 10. The link is attached to the trailer by a cord 20 so that it is pulled away if the trailer becomes uncoupled, allowing contact to be established. The circuit includes a manual switch 3 which may be opened when the tractor alone is in use.
