Abstract
<PICT:0457777/III/1> A liquid is degassed by causing it to flow down the inner surface of an evacuated chamber while subjecting it to an increasing temperature gradient. The process may be carried out in one or more stages. As shown in Fig. 2 the apparatus may comprise an inner cylinder 1 heated by radiation from the outer cylinder 2. The liquid is distributed by the device 4 to the inner surface of cylinder 1 and after traversing this is passed by the conduits 6, 9 to the inner surface of cylinder 2, which is surrounded by jacket 13 providing an increasing temperature as the liquid flows downward. The process is particularly applicable as a preliminary to high-vacuum distillation, and a part of the distillation may be effected in the degasser.
