Abstract
<FORM:0457291/III/1> In apparatus for distilling liquids such as hydrogen peroxide under reduced pressure and comprising feed tanks, an evaporator, and receivers, the feed tanks and receivers are connected to the same vacuum pipe line to maintain substantially the same degree of vacuum at every point in the apparatus. The liquid flows from feed tanks b connected to the vacuum pipe line c through a vessel e which is also provided with a connection to the pipe line c. The level of the liquid will be maintained substantially at the level of the entrance of the vacuum connection of vessel e owing to the air lock formed in this vessel. The liquid then flows through heated tubes g to the main evaporator tubes h. The tubes g produce a heat pump circulating effect but if the main evaporator tubes are vertical they can be dispensed with. Liquid and vapour are separated in vessel i, the liquid passing to receivers o, and the vapour passing through condenser l to receivers m. All these receivers are connected to the vacuum pipe line c. In a modification the liquid is passed through a succession of evaporator tubes and separator chambers.
