Abstract
1,082,428. Vacuum distillation apparatus. O. M. DE FREITAS MORNA. May 9, 1966 [Nov. 3, 1965], No. 20355/66. Heading B1B. Liquid, e.g. water, is distilled under reduced pressure in a chamber which contains a condenser 5 immersed in the liquid which is supplied to the chamber through barometric tube 2, while the condensate (distilled water) is discharged through barometric tube 3. The vapours evolved from the liquid in the chamber are conveyed to the condenser by compressor 7. Water may be supplied from the sea, or a lake, to tube 2 by way of a metal tray 18 disposed in a closed chamber 19 heated by the sun. The condenser may comprise a copper box through which extend brass tubes which are open to the evaporation chamber. The condenser is screened by sheets 15, 16 of heatinsulating material. Apparatus is also described comprising two evaporation chambers of the above type. Water-to-be-disitilled is supplied to each chamber but the feed to one chamber is at a higher temperature than the feed to the other chamber. The system is provided with an elevated condenser into which two streams of vapour, at different temperatures, are drawn by a compressor.
