Abstract

456,392. Vehicle fittings for loading. SPARSHATT, J. H., London Road, Hilsea, Portsmouth. Dec. 9, 1935, No. 34080. [Class 78 (iv)] [See also Group XXXII] A tail gate which also serves as a loading ramp for vehicles such as are used for carrying cattle is slide-guided to move downwardly and its lower edge after contacting with the road moves along the road away from the vehicle so that the outer surface of the ramp lies uppermost. The ramp 1 is provided at its upper parts with rollers 3 adapted to run in guides 4 and when the ramp is lowered by means of winding gear until its lower edge comes into contact with the ground the latter edge is moved outwardly so that the normally outer face of the ramp lies uppermost. This outer face may be provided with hinged flaps or fences which when the ramp is in position for loading may form side fences. The ramp is operated by cables 7 passing over pulleys 9 to a winch which may comprise drums 10, reduction gearing, and a hand crank 13. The outer edge of the ramp may be provided with rollers or skids.
