Abstract
456,033. Sharpening razors. OHLENDORF, R. A. F., 25, de Mayo No. 214, Buenos Aires. Nov. 7, 1935, No. 30854. [Class 60] A razor-blade sharpener comprises a blade carrier formed by upper and lower frames a and intermediate frames c having a rectangular perforation f in which is arranged a retaining member e of sheet material having curved side extensions l formed with grooves m. The blade is inserted vertically in the grooves m and is secured in position by sliding a member d in a cutaway portion of one frame c so that teeth j on the member pass through the perforations in the blade. The member d is provided with a projection h and a handle h<1> passing through guide slots in the frames a. The blades are then sharpened by a moving whetting element horizontally on both directions across both edges of the blade in turn, the resilience of the blade assisting the operation. Guides for the whetting element may be secured to both sides of the frames a, the depth of the guides enabling the device to be placed on a table during the sharpening operation. In one form the whetting element consists of a square block having its sides covered or coated with different materials such as leather, willow wood, glass, and slate. Fig. 10 shows another form in which leather o and willow p are secured to one side of the element and cylindrical rods of glass q and slate r to the opposite side.
