454,607. Carding-engines. PHILIPSON & CO. (BOLTON), Ltd., LEACH, F., and GREENHALGH, F., Holland Street Works, Astley Bridge, near Bolton. April 12, 1935, No. 11315. [Class 120 (i)] In a carding-engine a roller or brush, 4, Fig. 1, for clearing the stripping brush or cleaning roller 2 is provided with card clothing 7 and with means for placing it into and out of gear with its driving wheel 12 and, while so driven, bringing it into engagement with the stripping brush in order to cleanthe latter and for retaining it in its operative position and removing it therefrom as and when desired. Each end of the roller shaft 4<a> is mounted in a block 5 slidable in a slot 6<a>, a pin 8 on the block 5 engaging a cam slot 9<a> in a bracket 9 pivoted at 9<d>. On throwing over a handle 13 the bracket 9 is rotated and the pin 8 travelling in the slot 9<a> moves the roller 4 inwardly 'until the gear wheel 11 is in mesh with the gear wheel 12 on the stripping brush 2. The number of teeth on the gear wheels 11, 12 is so chosen that the relative positions of the brush 2 and clearer 4 are constantly changing. When in its operative position the roller 4 is locked by the pin 8 engaging the end 9<b> of the cam slot 9<a>. The card, clothing 7 is arranged with one or more spiral series of pins 7<a>, Fig. 3.
