Abstract

Lubricants for fibres comprise a dispersion in water or an organic solvent of a liquid carboxylic acid R--X--(COOH)n, R being a fatty radicle which has at least 8 C atoms and may contain substituents, n a whole number, and X an aliphatic or aromatic group containing N, O, S, or P. There may also be added:--an emulsifier e.g. sodium carbonate, ammonia, or triethanolamine; olein; olive or other neutral oil; other organic oiling agents e.g. polyglycol, dibutylene glycol; and salts e.g. magnesium sulphate, and salts of phosphoric acid such as sodium hexametaphosphate. Acids specified are oleic acid sarcoside, dodecylamino-acetic acid, the acid of dodecyl-methyldiglycollamide, hexyl-phenoxy-propionic acid, dodecyl-oxyethyl-oxy-acetic acid, ketotridecylic acid, dodecyl-oxyacetic acid, octyl-cyclohexyloxyethyl-oxyacetic acid, dodecyl-amino-diacetic acid. In examples:--wool is treated with an emulsion of 1 lb. of oleic acid sarcoside in 1 lb. of water, or of 2 lb. of sarcoside in 4 lb. of water and 0,1 lb. of ammonia, p or of 1 lb. of olive oil and 0,5 lb. of sarcoside in water, or of 3 lb. of dodecyl-aminoacetic acid and 10 lb. of dibutylene glycol in water; and a mixture of 0,5 lb. of sarcoside, 5 lb. of paraffin oil, and 0,1 lb. of triethanolamine, emulsified or not in water, is used in the preparation of artificial silk.
