[Class 59] A mill comprises a roll and breast bar, a second roll for co-operation with the first roll, and a mixer or the like adapted to deliver material directly to the mill, the material from the mixer being processed between the two rolls, or by the breast bar and its co-operating roll or by both rolls and one roll and its breast bar. As shown, a roller 3, breast 6 and hopper 5 has superimposed thereon another roller 4 adjustable with respect to roller 3 and side standards 20 attached to the mill framing supports a mixing apparatus 23 which delivers into a hopper 16 supplying liquid to the nip of the rollers 3, 4. A swivelling shoot on the mixer may discharge the material to an extra grinder of two or three rolls, where the material is ground before being scraped off into hopper 16. The roll 4 and mixer 23 may be added separately to or may be combined integrally with the mill. The shaft 28 which drives the mill may also drive an edge-runner which supplies the mixer 23. When the mill is to be used as a roller-and-breast mill the roll 4 is raised clear of the roll 3 and the gates 17 and 19 of the hoppers 16, 5 raised so that a film of material is carried bv the roller 3 to the breast bar. When the mill is used as a roller mill the gate 19 and breast bar 6 are withdrawn from the roll 3, the material from the hopper 16 being crushed by the rolls and discharged by a scraper 8.
