Abstract

453,601. Vacuum cleaners. HIGGIN, F. B. HOLMES-, Netherwood, Princes Avenue, Petts Wood, Kent. Feb. 13, 1935, No. 4638. [Class 8 (i)] In a vacuum cleaner, the casing 6 forming the dust receptacle and the casing 7 containing the motor and fan unit are mounted side by side on a wheeled carriage and the suction nozzle 12 extends across the front of the carriage. Air passes from the nozzle 12 through the tube 25 and upwardly through a filter 15 comprising a sheet of material stretched on a wire frame 15a carried in a rubber moulding 16 detachably arranged in a slide 17. The end 22 of the dust receptacle is curved and air is drawn through the connection 21 and flows over the motor 9 to the fan 8. The joints 13, 35 are provided between the casings 6, 7 and the suction nozzle 12 and the covers 34 respectively. Caps 26 cover orifices 25 to the casings 6, 7 so that suction and blower hoses may be employed. The rear wheels of the carriage may be adjusted vertically by worm and worm wheel gearing.
