Abstract

495,039. Motor casings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and STENT, T. F. May 5, 1937, No. 12855. [Class 35] The motor and fan of a vacuum cleaner have a sheathing of rubber or like sounddeadening material with an aperture at one end communicating with the air inlet nozzle and an aperture at one side for connection to the dust bag mounted on or adjacent the cleaner handle, and the fan end of the sheathing is fitted around the periphery of a plate attached to the cleaner casing. In the form shown, the motor 5 has a skeleton frame 12 with a rubber sheathing 13 having an extension 14 about the end of the motor, the sheathing also having an enlarged part 15 disposed about the fan. The sheathing is secured to a plate 16 supported from the flange 18 on the nozzle 2 by means of a rubber sleeve 19. The sheathing has an aperture (not shown) in one side for connection to the dust bag carried by the handle 10 and has on each side a lug 20 (shown dotted) bolted to the outer casing 1. The sheathing also has apertures 23 to permit air to circulate around the motor.
