Abstract

Leather dyestuffs are obtained by combining by oxidation or condensation two molecular proportions of a nitroaminodiphenyl amino di- or tri-sulphonic acid with one molecular proportion of a benzoquinone. In examples: (1) the nitroaminodiphenylaminedisulphonic acid obtained by condensing 1 : 4-diaminobenzenesulphonic acid with 4-nitro-1-chlorbenzene-2-sulphonic acid is treated, in the presence of pyrolusite with toluquinone; (2) the dinitroaminodiphenylaminedisulphonic acids obtained from 1 : 4-diaminobenzenesulphonic acid and 1-chlor-2 : 6-(or 2 : 4-)dinitrobenzene-4 (or 6-)sulphonic acids are treated, in the presence of pyrolusite with toluquinone; (3) the condensation product from 1 : 4-diaminobenzene-2 : 6-disulphonic acid and 4-nitro-1-chlorbenzene-2-sulphonic acid is reacted with chloranil; (4) the condensation product from 1 : 3-diaminobenzene-4-sulphonic acid and 4-nitro-1-chlorbenzene-2-sulphonic acid is reacted with toluquinone in the presence of pyrolusite or chloranil. The dyestuffs, which give brown shades, penetrate the leather. Specification 219,673, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
