453,446. Supply systems for discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Patent- Treuhand Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin) April 6, 1935, No. 10743. [Class 38 (iv)] Flickering of a luminous electric discharge device supplied from an alternating or intermittent source a, Fig. 1, is prevented by supplying an impulsive voltage b coinciding with the minimum values of the source. The discharge device 2, Fig. 2, is fed with alternating or intermittent current from terminals 3, and the circuit includes a stabilizing choke 4 and the secondary 5 of a transformer, the primary 7 of which is fed through a resistance 9 from terminals 8 supplied from the same source as the terminals 3, but through a phase shifting device, not shown. A condenser 10 and discharge tube 11 are connected across the primary 7 so that when the voltage across terminals 3 falls to a minimum, the voltage across condenser 10 attains the starting potential of tube 11 and the condenser discharges through the tube. The consequent change of voltage across the primary 7 induces the required impulsive voltage across the electrodes of the discharge device 2.
