Abstract

Artificial textile materials, e.g. cellulose ester or ether or regenerated cellulose materials, are lubricated and/or coloured by applying thereto a composition, substantially free from water, comprising a sulphonated mineral oil and an unsulphonated vegetable oil and/or a fat or wax. If the materials are to be coloured, either permanently or with a fugitive dyestuff for identification purposes, a colouring matter is incorporated in the composition or a colouring matter component is incorporated and the colouring matter is subsequently formed therefrom on the materials. The sulphonated mineral oil may be one obtained by sulphonation of pure or crude mineral oils, of their distillation residues or fractions or of mixtures thereof with a higher fatty acid and the unsulphonated vegetable oil may be, e.g. olive or cotton-seed oil with or without stearin or oleic, stearic or palmitic acid. The presence of a small quantity of a sulphonated higher fatty acid facilitates subsequent removal of the composition by scouring. Suitable colouring matters or components thereof are those described in Specifications 219,349, 224,681, 227,183, 237,943, 239,470, 253,978, 263,260, 283,081, 283,253, 299,349, 300,929, 305,560, 306,981, 310,827, and 311,433, [all in Class 15 (ii)]. The compositions may be applied to artificial yarns, filaments, threads, bristles, straws, staple fibres, foils and fabrics and in the case of the filaments may be applied continuously with their production. Compositions containing a high proportion of a solid, e.g. a solid fatty acid, may be applied in molten condition. The following examples are specified: (1) 10 parts of a solution of 2 to 3 parts of one of the dyestuffs, (a) the sodium salt of dibenzyl-tetraethyl - triamino - triphenylcarbinoldisulphonic acid anhydride, (b) Acid green G, (c) the calcium salt of m<1>-hydroxy-dibenzyl-diethyl-diamino triphenylcarbinoldisulphonic acid anhydride or (d) Erioglaucine A, in 20 parts of sulphonated naphthene are added to 80 parts of olive or cotton-seed oil and the mixture is applied to cellulose acetate yarn during winding for lubrication and identification; (2) a mixture containing olive oil, sulphonated naphthene, oleic acid and 1 : 4-hydroxyaminoanthraquinone is printed on cellulose ester or ether material and the print is steamed or aged and scoured. Specification 308,733, [Class 15 (ii)], also is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (1) the use of an unsulphonated constituent of mineral origin, e.g. petroleum jelly or a light mineral oil, (2) the application to other fibres, e.g. wool and silk. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Artificial textile materials, e.g. cellulose ester or ether or regenerated cellulose materials, are lubricated by applying thereto a composition, substantially free from water, comprising a sulphonated mineral oil and an unsulphonated vegetable oil and/or a fat or wax. A colouring matter or a component thereof may also be incorporated. The sulphonated mineral oil may be one obtained by sulphonation of pure or crude mineral oils, of their distillation residues or fractions, or of mixtures thereof with a higher fatty acid and the unsulphonated vegetable oil may be, e.g. olive or cotton-seed oil with or without stearin or oleic, stearic or palmitic acid. The presence of a small quantity of a sulphonated higher fatty acid facilitates subsequent removal of the composition by scouring. Compositions containing a high proportion of a solid, e.g. a solid fatty acid, may be applied in molten condition. In an example, a cellulose acetate yarn is lubricated during winding and at the same time is fugitively coloured for identification by applying a mixture of 10 parts of a solution of 2 to 3 parts of an acid dyestuff in 20 parts of sulphonated naphthene with 80 parts of olive or cotton-seed oil. Specification 308,733, [Class 91], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (1) the use of an unsulphonated constituent of mineral origin, e.g. petroleum jelly or a light mineral oil; (2) the application to other fibres, e.g. wool and silk. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
