Abstract

526,683. Textile lubricants. COURTAULDS, Ltd., DIAMOND, C., and STONEMAN, J. P. March 21, 1939, No. 8964. [Class 91] [Also in Group IV] Textile materials are tinted and lubricated by treating them with a liquid composition consisting of a sulphonated vegetable oil, a fugitive dyestuff, triethanolamine oleate, and a lubricating oil and substantially no water. A sulphonated vegetable oil soap may be used instead of the sulphonated vegetable oil. The lubricating oil may be a mineral or vegetable oil or a mixture of these e.g. a mineral oil and palm kernel or cocoanut or other non-drying oil. The dyestuff is one having no appreciable affinity for the textile being treated e.g. in the case of cellulose acetate threads, an acid wool dye may be used. The dyestuff may be dissolved in the sulphonated vegetable oil or fatty alcohol, heat being used if required. Triethanolamine oleate is added to this solution, preferably while hot and the composition is then diluted by the addition of lubricating oil. The mixture is then heated until most of the water is removed and a clear liquid is obtained. This is allowed to stand for some time before use, and any sediment which forms is separated. The liquid is used for marking threads for identification purposes. It may be applied by wick or roller to threads or filaments during winding or twisting. It may be applied to cellulose acetate filaments immediately after they have left the dry spinning cell. In examples, cellulose acetate threads are treated with a liquid comprising Azo Geranine, sulphonated arachis oil, triethanolamine oleate, a high boiling mineral oil, and palm kernel oil, or with a liquid comprising Disulphine Blue, " Monopol " soap (Registered Trade Mark), triethanolamine oleate, high boiling mineral oil, and palm kernel oil. Specification 492,472 is referred to.
