Abstract
452,137. Washing gases. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A., BRASSERT, H. A., and COLCLOUGH, T. P., Brook House, Walbrook, London. Nov. 7, 1934, No. 32062. [Class 55 (ii)] Blast - furnace &c. gases are cleaned while in a heated condition by contact with steam or water vapour, and the water discharged from contact with the gases and resulting from condensation is recirculated for the saturation of other hot gases. The gas enters a tower a at b and meets atomized sprays of hot water from tangentially - arranged nozzles c in the lower part a<1> of the tower. A coneshaped diaphragm d provided with openings e separates the part a<1> from a cooling section a<2> containing hurdles f or other scrubbing media. Hot water for the atomizing nozzles is obtained by re-circulating the discharge water through a settling basin h and pumps i, j ; part of the water may be cooled in towers j<1> and used in the section a<2>. In a modification, the hot water sprays are projected radially or otherwise into the top of the tower to meet incoming gas, and cooling is effected in the lower part. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 214,779 and 334,660, [both in Class 55 (ii)].
