Abstract

552,146. Sulphuric acid. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. (Du Pont de Nemours & Co., E. I.). Sept. 19, No. 12123. [Class 1 (ii)] Burner gas after passage through a dust precipitator B and dry cooler C is cooled and humidified by scrubbing with acid in a tower 1, treatment with a water spray 5 and passage through a coke filter 6, and is then dried by treatment with stronger acid in countercurrent in a series of towers 8, 13, 14 before passing to the converter D. The diluted acid leaving tower 2 is used to supply the cooling tower 1 in which it is concentrated. It may then be returned by pipe 11 to tower 8, or alternatively it may be passed to the absorber F by line 23, in which case tower 8 is wholly supplied from the next tower 13.
