781,513. Contacting gases with liquids. DIDIER-KOGAG-HINSELMANN GES. March 29, 1955 [April 2, 1954], No. 9067/55. Class 55 (2). In a multi-stage gas scrubbing process such as for removing hydrocarbons, using recirculation of the scrubbing liquor, more substantial recirculation of the liquor is effected in the scrubbing stages at which there are high concentrations of the gas to be removed than in the subsequent stages and the liquor is directed into a direct flow scrubber in the last stage or stages of scrubbing. As shown, two multi-stage scrubbers 9, 10 each have four scrubbing stages 11- 14 and 15-18, the liquor collecting on an intermediate plate 20 between stages. A pump 19 feeds the scrubbing liquor to the last stage 18 and after passing through stages 18, 17, 16, 15, in direct flow the liquor is fed by pump 21 to stage 14 of the scrubber 9. The liquid is recirculated at each stage by pumps 22-25 and may if necessary be cooled by heat-exchangers 26-28 fed with cooling water. The recirculation of the liquor may be four-fold or five-fold in stage 11.
