573,321. Cooling- towers. MITCHELL, F. G Nov. 5, 1943, No. 18419. [Class 64 (i)] In a cooling-tower comprising a vertical hollow shell in the lower part of which is an open framework over which warm water or other liquid falls and is cooled by air entering through apertures 16 near the bottom of the tower and rising under natural draught, air admission pipes 21, 22 of two or more lengths extending radially inwards from the apertures 16 and opening into the bottom of the tower at various distances from its side walls have provision such as openings 28 for the escape of air between their ends. All the air entering the tower may pass through the pipes, or part may enter the tower directly, above the tops of the pipes.
