Abstract

618,285. Cooling-towers. WILLS, L. G., and HOLST & CO., Ltd. Oct. 10, 1946. No. 30323. [Class 64(i)] [Also in Group XII] A forced-draught cooling or degassing tower is provided with a self-supporting, centrally-disposed hollow column 5 which houses and supports the draught-producing means. The tower, which is hyperboloidal in shape, is provided with the usual air inlets 3 and stack and irrigated by water sprays supplied from a duct 11. The fan blades 6 are situated near the throat 2 of the tower and are driven by an electric motor 7 housed in the column 5. An air shaft 8, extending outside the tower, supplies dry air to the interior of the column, downwardly-directed holes 10 being provided for its escape.
