Abstract
830,362. Transverse-flow blowers. MASCHINENFABRIK BENNINGER A.G. May 7, 1957 [May 8, 1956; Nov. 27, 1956], No. 14518/57. Class 110 (1). In a transverse-flow blower in which a space is separated by a rotor into a suction chamber and a discharge chamber, means are provided for producing an abrupt increase in pressure on the rotor periphery near the point of entry of the rotor blades into the suction chamber. In the transverse-flow blower shown in Fig. 1, air is bled from the discharge chamber 13 through a duct 18 and impinges upon the rotor periphery at about the point of entry of the rotor blades 15 into the inlet chamber 12. This assists the entry of air into the rotor from the inlet chamber 12. A nozzle may be provided at the end of duct 18. The auxiliary jet of air may be supplied from a separate source, such as a compressor, instead of from the discharge chamber 13, and in this case the duct 18 may be replaced by a duct disposed parallel to the rotor axis at the point of entry of the rotor periphery into the inlet chamber 12 and discharging through nozzles or slots. A further arrangement is shown in Fig. 3, wherein the chambers 12 and 13 are separated by a transverse wall 25 inclined at not more than 30 degrees to the radial direction. The wall 25 produces an auxiliary flow from the chamber 13 in the direction of the arrows.
