[Class 83 (iv)] Felt-covered tensioning guides 1, 17, on each side of a strip-metal rolling-mill are easily separable by mechanically connecting each top and bottom guide so that on reversal of the direction of the strip through the mill, both guides on the exit side can be separated at once so as not to bear on the strip. When fluid pressure is admitted to the cylinder 12 the piston-rod 11 rocks the 3-armed levers 5 and 13 raising the top plate 1 and lowering the bottom plate 17 by the raising of the spindles 2 attached to the top plate 1 and operating the ends 13 of lever 5 to lower the rods 16 carrying the bottom plate 17. The top handles allow unilateral adjustment if necessary.
