456,478. Altering physical structure. VEREINIGTE STAHLWERKE AKT.-GES., 69, Breitestrasse, D³sseldorf, Germany. Nov. 22, 1935, No. 32452. Convention date, Feb. 21. [Class 83 (iv)] In a process for improving the structure of raw or cast ingots in which all the sides are of open grain structure, by transposing crystallites into a position parallel, or approximately so, to the surface, each corner is rolled inwardly towards the axis of the ingot to convert the corner into a surface. The ingot a is first rolled edgewise between rolls b, c then turned through 90‹ and rolled again to produce the bar d. This process may also be carried out by pressing or forging. Specification 157,166, [Class 83 (iv)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also described the method of carrying out the process in a series of roll passes in which only one edge was rolled flat in each pass. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
