Abstract
480,901. Rolling flanged and profiled bars. BARTSCHERER, F. Nov. 30, 1936, No. 32820. Convention date, Feb. 27. [Class 83 (iv)] In producing rolled articles such as rails and profiled bars with the crystallites at particular parts of the section disposed parallel to the surface, the ingot is heavily deformed at those parts, e.g. from 50 to 80 per cent in a single pass. The deformation is preferably effected by providing reinforcements b, on two opposite faces of the ingot a, which are to form the head and foot of a rail, and rolling down these reinforcements into the hatched portions of the surface. Alternatively the rolls may be shaped so that accumulations of metal b are formed in a rectangular ingot in an intermediate pass and are subsequently rolled into the surface. The reinforcements preferably disappear at the ends of an ingot to facilitate its entry between the rolls, and the stages in the production of a rail section are shown in the Specification.
