Rolling; cross rolling. - Sheets are made by first longitudinally rolling a billet to give it a contour composed of a series of longitudinal parallel waves or thickenings, and then rolling the blank transversely to straighten it and to reduce its thickness. Various forms of undulation are shown. The intermediate product formed by the longitudinal rolling may be cut into lengths before being cross-rolled. The edges of the intermediate, product may be of rectangular section to facilitate the entry of the blank into the rolls B C, Fig. III.
