Abstract
171,017. Innocent, J. A. Sept. 24, 1920. Cuttlery and like blades.-In making cutlery or like blades, a strip of metal is rolled to produce the transverse and longitudinal taper simultaneously. The strip of metal is preferably equal in thickness to the thickest part of the blades or to the bolsters if such are required, or a strip rolled with transverse ribs to form the bolsters may be used. The width of the strip is slightly greater than the width of two blades, and its length sufficient to form, when rolled out, a number or only one pair of blades. The die face of the rolls is preferably adapted to form two blades, but may form a number of pairs side by side with cutting-edges A adjacent and also handles or tangs C and bolsters D, the metal preferably being rolled towards the point of the blades. The end of the strip may be shaped to assist entry between the rolls. The blanks are then cut out and finished as usual.
