451,849. Auxiliary power plant for ships and other craft. WILLIAMS, G. H. KREASEL-, 345, Calle Corrientes, Altos, Rosario de Sante Fe, Argentine. Jan. 7, 1935, No. 509. [Classes 4 and 114] A motor, operated by a current due to movement of a ship or other craft, is used for assisting propulsion or for generating power for auxiliary services and comprises a bell-shaped casing containing a helical fin with outer edge close up to the casing, the fin being mounted on a shaft from which power is taken and the casing being provided with a bell-shaped inlet. A ship 1 has a central casing 13 enclosing a helical fin 15 on a shaft 14 which is coupled to the propeller shaft 23. Fluid enters at openings 3 which are adjustable by rods 7 which are coupled to the nosing 2 and then passes to a bell-shaped inlet 9 in which a fan 14a may be placed. The fluid passes from the motor through pipes 11 outside the hull. The power generated may be used for generating electric current for auxiliary services. In a modification, the current motor 25 may be mounted on a cradle 26 which is supported in slides 28 on the side of the ship, lifting gear being provided for removing the units when not required.
