Abstract
477,542. Outboard motors. PRICE, H. W. July 2, 1936, No. 18406. Convention date, July 3, 1935. [Class 114] An outboard motor is provided with an electric motor as its source of power, and this motor 32 is mounted directly upon the shaft of the propeller 36 in a water-tight streamline casing 30 at the foot of a column 28 which is adjustably mounted for steering purposes on brackets 20 which are in turn adjustably secured to the transom of the boat. Power.for the motor is supplied from a battery 12 through leads 56, 58 which pass to ring brushes 50, 52 carried by insulating washers 54 on the top of the column and on the control casing 42 so that contact is maintained in all positions of the column, when steering. The earth lead 56 passes through a resistance coil 64 which is under the control of the operator through a lever 68, and leads 60, 62 pass down to the. motor. For steering when going astern, the steering lever 44 is adapted to be swung over its pivot into the new inboard position.
