Abstract

380,833. Ships' steering-gear. HERMANSEN, H., Heim, N÷tter÷, and HANSEN, M., Hafnor, both near Tonsberg, Norway. June 22, 1931, No. 18052. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 13, 1931.] [Class 114.] A steering-gear for a whaling boat consists in combining with the handgear an electric drive controlled from the look-out which drive is disconnectible. Upon the steering-shaft 1 is mounted a worm wheel 3 to which it is coupled by a claw coupling 7 slidable into and out of engagement by a hand-lever 9. The wheel 3 gears with a worm 4 driven by an electric motor the controls for which are situated in the look-out. The rudder shaft carries a cam having a groove coacting with a switch arm whereby current is interrupted in the extreme rudder positions and contacts are provided at mid-rudder position and give a signal to the steersman.
