Abstract

Lubricating-compositions, especially for use under high pressures, consist of a major amount of a lubricating oil and a minor amount of a halogenated heterocyclic compound containing a nitrogen or sulphur atom. Compounds preferably contain at least 55 per cent of halogen and have a boiling point above 170 DEG C. Compounds specified are chlorinated pyridine, quinoline, pyrrole, thiophene or derivatives thereof. Examples: mineral lubricating-oil is mixed with 0,1 to 2 per cent or more of halogenated quinoline stearate or oleate. The lubricant may be admixed with motor fuel and used as an upper cylinder lubricant. The solution or dispersion of the compounds may be assisted by solvents such as benzene, chlorbenzene, amyl alcohol, acetone, naphtha, carbon tetrachloride, tetrachlorethylene, aniline or tricresyl phosphate.
