Abstract

Lubricating-compositions, especially for use under high pressure, consist of a major amount of a lubricating oil and a minor amount of a halogenated cycloaliphatic or hydroaromatic compound. Compounds employed preferably contain at least 55 per cent of chlorine and have a boiling point above 170 DEG C. Compounds specified are chlorinated cyclohexane, cyclohexene, cyclohexadiene; chlorinated naphthalenes, hydrophenanthrenes, hydranthracenes, hydrodiphenyls, indene or hydrindene naphthenes or naphthenic acids, or terpenes. Examples: mineral lubricating-oil is mixed with 0,1 to 2 per cent or more of dichlorhexahydrobenzene, chlorinated phenyl hexahydrobenzene, chlorinated dodecahydro - diphenyl, or chlorinated decahydronaphthalene. The lubricant may be admixed with motor fuel as an upper cylinder lubricant. The solution or dispersion of the compounds may be assisted by solvents such as benzene, chlorbenzene, amyl alcohol, acetone, naphtha, carbon tetrachloride, aniline, tetrachlorethylene or tricresyl phosphate.
