[Class 146 (iii)] Relates to self-filling fountain pens. A movable tubular member 1, closed at one end and acting as a plunger, is connected to the nib-section 5 by a flexible tube or sac 3. The plunger, which is preferably made wholly or partly of transparent or translucent material such as glass or celluloid, is controlled in its movement by the resiliency of the flexible member, or by a spring 13 disposed inside or outside the flexible member or embedded in the wall thereof. An air-tube 6 is secured in an aperture in the feed-bar communicating with the ink-duct and extends into the reservoir to such a position that its end normally lies at a distance from the closed end of the plunger equal to or slightly greater than the stroke of the plunger. The parts are enclosed in an outer barrel 14 of vulcanite, opaque or figured celluloid, or the like secured to the nib-section and formed with an aperture at the rear end through which the rear end of the plunger extends. The barrel and plunger are provided with co-operating shoulders to limit the movement of the plunger, and the barrel acts as a guide for the enlarged part of the plunger, relative rotation being prevented, if desired, by the parts being formed of polygonal cross-section. The exposed part of the plunger is covered by a cap 20. According to a modification described in the Provisional Specification, the plunger reciprocates over a rigid tubular member integral with or secured to the point-section, a spring being provided to effect the return of the plunger to normal position.
