Abstract
450,919. Supports for umbrellas. SPAHN, A. GLATZ-, Frauenfeld, Switzerland. Jan. 18, 1936, No. 1648. [Class 134] [See also Group XIV] Sunshades and umbrellas are supported on a pedestal stand by a joint 3, the axis of which is at right-angles to a plane containing the pillar 2 and the umbrella stick 1, but is externally displaced relatively to the longitudinal axes of both the pillar and the stick, the pillar being mounted in a tubular socket 5 provided with removable feet 8 ... 11 which can be inserted and secured within the socket for transport. The joint 3 comprises a cone coupling secured by a screw 4 and clamping sockets for the ends of the stick and pillar. The pillar is secured in the socket 5 by a screw 6. The feet pass through slots 7, 7<1> in the socket 5 and are clamped by turning a sleeve 12 having inclined slots engaging pins 14 on the socket. When packed inside the socket the feet are secured by a screw. Set-screws may be used to clamp the feet in the position of use instead of the sleeve 12. Two of the feet may be of channel section and the remaining two of rectangular section packing into the channel.
