[Class 35] [See also Group XL] The tuning condenser of a wireless receiver is driven by a solenoid comprising a core 22 co-operating with a plunger 23 working in fluid and incorporating a valve 24 which facilitates a dash-pot action when the plunger is attracted and a rapid upstroke when the solenoid is de-energized. The magnetic circuit is formed so that the force exerted is a linear function of the distance between the plunger and the core 22.
