[Class 75 (iv)] In street or other lamps, one or more reflectors, each shaped substantially as part of a hollow paraboloid, are arranged above a horizontal elongated light source, e.g. an electric discharge lamp, an incandescent lamp with an elongated filament, or an arrangement of filaments or incandescent gas mantles in line, so that light is reflected outwardly and is also radiated by the light source directly downwards. In the form shown in Fig. 2, two reflectors 1, 2 are arranged to direct light in substantially opposite directions, and the light source 3 is supported transversely of the reflectors by a holder 7 on a box 6, and a stirrup or spring loop 8. Alternatively, the light source may extend longitudinally of the reflectors, and may comprise a single filament lamp the holder and supporting stirrup of which are attached to the reflectors, or may comprise two filament lamps. A number of reflectors may be arranged to illuminate cross-roads or other road junctions. Groups of two or more reflectors 1, 1<a> and 2, 2<a> may be arranged to reflect light in substantially opposite directions, as shown in Fig. 12, and another reflector 1<x> may reflect light substantially at right-angles to those directions. In a group of reflectors, the outer ones 1, 1<a> may extend below the light source 3, as shown in Fig. 11. Each reflector has its focus coincident with the centre of the light source, or coincident with the centre of a corresponding longitudinal section of the light source. The reflectors may be formed in one piece of polished metal or severed glass, or of facets of silvered glass cemented to a cast metal backing, as described in Specification 228,294, [Class 75 (ii)].
