Abstract

443,511. Aerodrome floodlights and beacon lights ; incandescent electric lamps. CHANCE BROS. & CO., Ltd., and HOLMES, J. G., Glass Works, Smethwick, Birmingham. Nov. 21, 1934, No. 33505. [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In an aerodrome floodlight or tiltable beacon light comprising a reflector a which is in the form of a surface of revolution generated by rotating a straight or curved line about a vertical axis, an electric lamp bulb c and its holder b are arranged at right angles to the axis of generation of the reflector in such a manner that they do not materially obscure any part of the narrow vertical strip g of bright light which is seen in different positions on the reflector when the light is viewed by an observer at different points considerable distances from the light. The bulb c may comprise an incandescent filament bulb or an incandescent gas discharge bulb. Preferably the filament d is arranged on or parallel with the longitudinal axis of the bulb, and in the form shown in Fig. 3 the filament consists of a plurality of short vertical helices arranged parallel with each other.
