To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN F. GUTH, a
citizen of the United States, reslding at St.
Street-Lamps, of which the following is aspecifica-tion.
Street lamps, with which ll am familiar, are designed to reflect the light downwardly upon the side walk and street, with the result that there is a pall of intense blackness just above the light, intensifying the darkness, thus in a measure defeating the pur-.

My invention has for its obJect to provide a street light, which will not only reflect the light downwardly upon the side walk and street, but which will also have means provided to reflect the light upwardly and to flood-light the buildings on the street.
My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood tending standards 6 and 7.

A band 13, preferably formed of metal is mounted upon the top of the arms, which is shouldered as at 14, and provided with a plurality of openings for the insertion of set screws 15, which secure a ring 16 to the band 13, this latter ring operating to clamp and hold a hemispherical glass globe 17, which forms the upper part of the street light. This globe is preferably formed of translucent glass. Cast or formed upon the strap 8 is a member 18, to which is pivotally secured a reflector 19. The reflector 19, has secured to its rear wall a U-shaped strap, which is formed in two parts, 20 and 21, the two parts being secured together by means of bolts 23, which are held in position by means of wing nuts 22, the bolts being mountedin 'slots formed adjacent the ends of the part 20. of the U-shaped strap, thus providing simple and easy means for adjusting thefocus of the electriclight bulb 24. with relation to the reflector 19.
A suitable socket 25. for the electric light bulb 24:, is secured to the strap 21. An electric cable 26, leading to a source of supply (not shown) carries the current to the socket 25. The annular member 11. is provided with an opening 27, adjacent the lower edge of the reflector 19, thus permitting the reflector to be moved up and down for the purpose of directing the flood-lighting upon the building in the desired place. By reason of the presence of the opening 27, the upper reflector may enter the said opening and increase the range of movement of said reflector beyond that which it would have if the opening were not present.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that this construction will furnish a highly efficient illumination of the street and side walk, while a portion of the light from the bulb 24, will tend to dissipate in a measure the intense blackness immediately above the street lamp while the reflector will direct a portion of the rays from the light bulb 24, upon the building, to produce a flood-lighting effect, the whole resulting in the production of a brilliant street illumination.
Having described my invention what I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 4 v
1. The combination of a globe, with an inverted hemispherical globe thereabove, an electric light bulb mounted within the first mentioned globe, a reflector pivotally mounted above said light, a light bulb adjustably mounted within said reflector,
means to separate the portion containing the reflector from the remaining portion.
2. The combination of a globe formed of translucent glass, with a hemispherical globe of clear glass located thereabove, an electric light bulb mounted within the translucent glass, a parabolic reflector pivotally mounted above said light bulb, a light bulb mounted within said reflector, opaque means to separate the portion containing the reflector from the remaining portion.
3. The combination of a globe of translucent glass, with an inverted hemispherical globe of clear glass detachably secured adjacent the top of the translucent globe, an
electric light bulb suspended Within thetranslucent glass, a parabolic reflector pivotally mounted above said light ,bulb, a
, light bulb adjustably mounted within said 'reflector, opaque means to separate the portion containing the reflector from the remaining portion.
4. The coinbinat1on of a globe of translucent glass, with an inverted hbmispherical globe of clear glass, means to detachably secure said globes one above the other, an electric light bulb suspended within the translu cent glass, a parabolic reflector pivotally mounted above said light bulb, an electric light bulb adjustably mounted within said reflector, means to separate the portion containing the reflector from the remaining portion.
5. A street light comprising the combination with a glass globe, formed of an upper and lower portion, det-achably secured together, means to divide the two portions into chambers, said means possessing reflective qualities, on its surface, means to illuminate both of said chambers, and adjustable means to direct said illumination in one chamber in a predetermined direction.
6. A street light comprising the combination with a glass globe formed with an upper and lower portion, means to detachably vide the two portions into chambers, said means possessing reflective-qualities on its surface, means to illuminate both of said chambers, adjustable means to direct some of said illumination in a predetermined direction and adjustable means to focus a portion of the electric light rays, and means to secure said adjustment when made.
