449,027. Tanning. CARPMAEL, A., 24, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany) Dec. 18, 1934, No. 36314. [Class 76] In tanning with zirconium salts, e.g. zirconium oxvchloride the leather is treated during or after tannage with a solution containing a non-tanning water soluble carboxylic or sulphonic acid having an aromatic nucleus or a salt of such acid. Acids mentioned as suitable in different degrees are dichlorobenzoic, chlorohydroxybenzoic, gallic, phthalic, dichlorophthalic, tetrachlorophthalic, tetraphthalyl-benzoic, triphenylmethane sulphonic, naphthalene 1.5-disulphonic acids. Lignin sulphonic acid may be used as an addition.
