Description
Process for the preparation of a new anthraquinone dye. It has been found that a new anthraquinone dye is obtained by sulfonating 1-amino-4-anilido-2-dodecylmercapto-anthraquinone.
The dye is blue and dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a reddish-violet color, which turns blue when formaldehyde is added. It is soluble in water, the solution is blue and looks soapy; it dyes wool in blue shades of very good wash and milled fastness.
In the following example, which does not limit the invention, the parts mean parts by weight.
Example: 10 parts of 1-amino-4-anilido-2-dodecyl mercaptoanthraquinone (obtainable from 1-amino-4-anilido-2-mercaptoanthraquinor and dodecyl bromide) are in 100 parts of a 100 percent Sulfuric acid dissolved at 10-150 C. 25 parts of fuming sulfuric acid (25 percent free SO2) are slowly added at 15 to 200 C. The mixture is warmed to about 25 C for about half an hour until a sample dissolves completely in water. The mixture is poured into 350 parts of ice and water.
The precipitated dye is filtered off, stirred into 700 parts of water, neutralized by adding sodium hydroxide solution, heated to about 700 ° C. and then 140 parts of salt are added. The mixture is cooled to about 400 ° C., the dye is filtered off, washed with 5% salt water and dried at about. 50-700 C.
