Abstract
Salts of diamines which are readily soluble in water are obtained by treating a diamine of the general formula <FORM:0594603/IV/1> where Z is an aromatic nucleus and R is an aralkyl group with methane sulphonic acid, or by treating a soluble mineral salt of the above diamine with a soluble inorganic salt of methane sulphonic acid. The reaction is preferably carried out in a solvent such as acetone. In an example an acetone solution of N-(p-dimethylaminoethyl)-N-benzyl-aniline is treated with an acetone solution of methane sulphonic acid to obtain the monomethyl sulphonate.
