Abstract

4-Aminobenzenediazonium salts of the formula I are prepared by diazotising the corresponding amines in water or in a mixture of water and a water-miscible solvent. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a mineral acid, a low molecular weight organic acid or a mixture of mineral acid and a lower molecular weight organic acid within the pH range from 1 to 4. The process can be used in the synthesis of azo dyes. <IMAGE>
