Abstract
448,200. Pipe joints. AKT.-GES. HUNZIKER & CIE ZURICH. BAUSTOFFABRIKEN BRUGG UND OLTEN, Brugg, Switzerland. March 11, 1935, No. 7543. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1934. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe end z is centred during its insertion into a socket m on the end of an adjacent pipe by means comprising a ring h which is clamped around the socket m and is formed with a projecting portion constituting a supporting bearing l for the pipe z, the bearing being provided with carrier balls or rollers q which are circumferentially spaced at an angle of 90‹. The pipe z, when located on the bearing, is preferably forced into position by two bolts k which are mounted on a ring i clamped to the pipe and have hooks 8 at one end for engagement with the ring h and tensioning nuts t at the other end. The invention is shown applied to a joint in which the pipes have curved end bearing faces p and wherein two packing spaces are provided, a wedge-shaped space for hemp cords c soaked in asphalt and the other for hemp cords e,f, alternately soaked with and devoid of asphalt, which are caulked and then sealed with cement mortar g.
