Abstract

447,549. Control of A.C. motors. HALL, Ltd., J. & E., 10, St. Swithin's Lane, and READ, A. A., 86, Blackheath Hill, both in London. Nov. 22, 1934, No. 33636. [Class 38 (iii)] Non-regenerative braking.-A control system for a lift motor 1, 2, comprises means for inserting slowing down resistances 6, 7, 8 in the motor circuit, a generator 11 coupled to the motor, a variable resistance 16 connected across the generator, and a relay 14 which operates to prevent further variation of the motor or generator resistances when the generator speed falls to a predetermined value. The resistance 16 is varied in accordance with the generator speed to increase the load on the generator after the resistances 6, 7, 8 have been adjusted to their lowest speed values. The slowing down adjustment of the resistances may be initiated by movement of a controller to a slow speed position, or by operation of a ramp provided for floor finding purposes. The resistances 6, 7, 8 and 16 may be adjusted by solenoids, the circuit of one solenoid being connected by movement of the core of the other to the limit of its travel. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the generator 11 is compounded and supplies, through contacts of a relay connected across the generator, a pilot motor adjusting the resistance 16. In this arrangement the variation of the resistances 6, 7, 8 is not subject to the control of a relay responsive to generator voltage, and the connection of the resistance 16 and the pilot motor to the generator includes the contacts of a relay under the control of the controller. For final stoppage the controller is arranged to disconnect the motor and energize a relay which connects a resistance across the generator for dynamic braking. The separately excited fields of the generator and pilot motor are energized from the supply through a rectifier. Specification 172,122, [Class 38 (iii)], is referred to.
