Abstract
382,661. Controlling motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and ADKINS, B., 13, Fisher Avenue, Paddox, Rugby. July 30, 1931, No. 21778. [Class 35.] A control system for stopping a commutator A.C. motor 2 driving a lift &c., comprises a stop 14 for the brush-shifting gear of the motor, which stop is positioned automatically according to the load on the motor so that, when the gear is returned towards its slow speed position, it is arrested by the stop in such a position that the lowest speed of the motor is independent of the load, whereupon the application of a brake stops the lift in a definite position. The stop 14 is moved by a cam 12 operated by a torque motor 8, which is energized according to the secondary current of the motor 2 through a transformer 7, and operates against a spring 13. Means are provided to retain the cam in the position it attains during full-speed running of the motor 2 until after the latter has come to rest. The torque motor 8 is shown as being of the polyphase commutator type, but it may be an induction or a series commutator motor. The cam 12 may be operated by movement of the stator of the main motor 2 against the action of a spring.
