[Class 38 (iv)] Electromotive force.- In a voltage regulator operated by a twophase induction motor 1 having two operating windings energized in different phases, one 3 of which is fed through a voltage responsive circuit, the other 2 being in circuit with a constant impedance 6, in order to reduce losses in the second winding the impedance is a choke which has a D.C. saturating winding so controlled that in normal conditions it is unsaturated. Preferably the saturating winding is fed by the rectified current of the voltage responsive winding as shown. A short circuited winding may be arranged on the D.C. winding in view of the A.C. component in the current. The saturation may be adjusted by varying the turns of the winding or shunting it. The relation between the current in the voltage responsive winding and that in the other winding of the motor may be varied by condensers or ohmic resistances in series or parallel con- 'nection.
