Abstract

279,433. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Eaton, J.). Oct. 19, 1926, [Convention date]. Systems for continous-current motors.-In the control of a lift motor 10 fed according to the Leonard system, by a local generator 14 having a variable field winding 15 subject to a separate exciter 20 and an opposing field winding 26 in series in the working circuit, momentary initial over-excitation of the generator field is provided for by the fact that the set starts with part of the regulating resistance 18 short-circuited and with an exciter diverting resistance 21 in action. as shown in the Figure. When the hand-controller 19 is turned clockwise for lifting or counter-clockwise for lowering, the corresponding directional switch-magnet 22 or 23 is energized. the over-excitation lasting for a short period determined by response of a relay 28, which controls a switch-magnet 27 arranged to put in the full regulating resistance 18 and to short-circuit part of the exciter diverting resistance 21. The relay 28 has the further function of momentarily delaying the energization of a brake-releasing magnet 29. The working motor has a controllable separately excited field winding 12, and the Leonard generator is driven by a three-phase motor 24. Specification 231,891 is referred to.
