Abstract
447,427. Lifeboats. HALKET, J. P., Corbans, Beech Grove, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire. Dec. 6, 1934, Nos. 35014/34 and 11559/35. [Class 113 (ii)] Metal lifeboats are constructed with built in side buoyancy tanks t the inner walls t<1>, t<2> of which form longitudinal stringers or box girders. The side tanks are compartmented by transverse bulkheads lined up with deep transverse frames c. The framing b between the tanks is longitudinal and the boat is transversely framed at a in the tanks themselves. Intermediate floors c<1> stiffen the bottom between the frames c. The gunwhale strakes are reinforced by the knees q. Corrosion resisting light-aluminium alloys may be employed as constructional material or light metals superficially treated to render them resistant to corrosion may be used. Specification 5684/90, [Class 113], is referred to.
